Unqualified Personal Trainers Cause Serious Injuries
Check out this video from CBS news about the rise of injuries being attributed to personal trainers. The personal training industry is in its infancy and is relatively unregulated. The quality and skills of any personal trainer can vary tremendously, and hiring a “certified” trainer does not necessarily protect you from the bad trainers out there (There are numerous certification that can be bought online for $50 and an hour of time.)
As a personal trainer for 9 years, and someone who has worked as a personal training director and owner of a training department, I can tell you from personal experience that the “average trainer”, even in a sophisticated culture like NYC, is often dancing on a thin line between “no pain, no gain” and gross negligence. But there are a lot of amazing personal trainers out there who will not only change your body, but transform your life. The tricky part is finding them and qualifying them!
